AFMR – Translational Medical Research Development Workshop
Productive Translational Research: Tools for Connecting Research Cultures and Managing Conflict
- What makes a successful research team?
- How can researchers (MD and PhD) speak the same language?
- How can conflict be managed constructively?
- How do you develop your own career in an age of team science?
This workshop will consider these and related questions that arise with the growth of translational research and team science. Interdisciplinary, translational research brings with it the challenge of integrating researchers from different personal and professional cultures into dynamic and productive research teams. Good communication and effective negotiation are needed in generating collaborative projects and in managing disputes and conflicts. The workshop speakers will discuss strategies for successful research team building as well as challenges for individual career development so as not be lost in translation. Hands on exercises will be presented to help participants gain valuable conflict management skills.
